The Municipality of Mijas is situated in the heart of the Costa del Sol between Malaga and Marbella, just 30km from Malaga airport. Mijas is one of the largest areas within the province of Malaga. Mijas area encompasses two very different neighbourhoods: The white village of Mijas high up in the mountains with its famous arts and crafts shops, and Mijas Costa, a more modern built-up coastal area spread along a 12km stretch of villages and urbanisations on the seafront.
The village of Mijas although located just a twenty minute drive from the coast, is still steeped in the old Andalucian traditions and customs. The residential and beach life of Mijas Costa is very much 21st century. The two large urbanizations in the Mijas area are Sitio de Calahonda and Riviera del Sol, forming large villages in their own right and have all the amenities you would ever need.
La Cala de Mijas Mijas Costa is the central point of Mijas Costa and although it has grown and been built up it still maintains something of its Andalucian village charm. From being originally a tiny fishing village, its population has increased to 10,000 – many of whom are foreign residents, expats and northern europeans. Inbetween Mijas village and Mijas Costa, you will find the Mijas golf valley. This entire area is a golfer’s paradise with numerous championship golf courses within easy reach.
The beautiful whitewashed village of Mijas, nestles comfortably in the mountainside at 428 meters above sea level. When you wander through the narrow cobbled streets of this Andalucian village, you can understand what has attracted foreigners to settle in Mijas over the years.
